What is the best procedure for storing a vehicle over winter in the cold. My motorhome will sit since Thanksgiving until about April. I am concerned with whether the seals in engine and auto tranny may dry out if I never start it (or the internals rust) and whether or not the batteries will survive (one for engine and two for camper part). I'd rather not take the batteries in the house. Should I start this beast once a month, once a week, what? Let it idle or take a 10 mile road trip? I can keep tabs on the batteries with a hydrometer and/or volt meter and put a charger on if necessary.
I hope this is of general interest as surely some FTE folks have motorhomes and/or are storing special trucks/cars over winter.
My da owns a motorhome and it sits outside during our harsh manitoban winters. just before it starts getting cold we put rv antifreeze in all the lines, fill the gas tank full, and charge the batteries fully and place then on a table ontop of stryofoam. usually we start it once a month and let it idle until the tempurature gauge gets to the warm part.
just make sure you havce a good grade oil in the engine, start it every once in a while and i don't think you have anythign to worry about.
oh yeah and we always place the motorhome on blocks to releive stress on the suspension
