Tire PSI

The Continental tires on my parents '05 Escape and the Goodyear tires on my '04 Ranger both list 44 PSI as the max pressure. This may be a dumb question, but should I maintain the PSI at the max?

I am more used to seeing 35 PSI from previous tires, and this has got me wondering if running at the maximum pressure is optimal for performance and tire life. Thanks for any advice.

You should use the tire pressures posted on the driver's door jamb (or door) on each vehicle. The max pressure listed on the tire is just what the tire is rated to, but it's not what is recommended for the vehicle the tire is used on.

The inside of the gas door cover indicates the tire size and PSI for front and rear tires. Thanks for the advice.
