Tranny drain plug

I was working on my GFs Explorer last night, trying to change the tranny fluid. According the manual, there's a drain plug for the tranny. Where that is, I have no idea. I looked on all sides of the tranny and didn't find anything that resembled the drain plug illustrated in the manual.

In the end, I ended up just dropping the pan. Which, for reference, creates a HUGE mess. As tranny fluid goes spilling EVERYWHERE....my poor garage floor

At any rate, I asked her to refill the tranny while I drain the transfer case. Well, she overfilled it. Seeing as how getting the add'l fluid back out might result in another mess, we got lazy and sent her on her way.

I know an overfilled tranny could lead to problems as the fluid expands. So, now more than ever, I need to figure out where that drain plug is for the tranny fluid. Does anyone have a clue where Ford hid this??

BTW, it's a 2000 Explorer XLS w/ the 4.0 V6 OHV. I think the tranny is the 55E, or something

thanks
mike

There is no drain plug on the pan, but there is one on the torque converter. There is a rubber plug on the bellhousing to get to it.

I installed a plug on mine, but before I did I bought a liquid pump at Sears that allowed me to suck all the fluid out of the pan through the dipstick filler.
