I Have A 79 F350 With A Fresh 429 That Came Out Of A Lincoln Ocean Liner. I'm Not Sure As To The Exact Weight Of My Truck With Big Block 38.5 Inch Tires 4.10 Dana 60's Front And Rear 4spd/205 Shortbox.
My Guess Would Be Around 6500-6800 Lbs. My Question Is Should I Have The Distributor Recurved To The Truck Specs Or Would I Even Notice A Difference?
Also Can Anyone Tell Me If There Is A Camshaft That Can Give You All The Power You Need Where You Want It And Still Pull 15 Inches Of Vaccum? Im Looking For A Cheater Cam For Racing In The Mud. The Rules State Engine Must Pull 15" Of Vaccum At 900 Rpm.
The best bet on your cam is to call and have one cut for your "cheater" porpose. If it is a hydrolic cam use Rhodes lifters they will give you more vaccum. Also use gapless rings, this will give you even more.
I found that the comp cams xtreme energy line of cams seem to pull more vacumn for a particular duration than alot of other cams, I actually ran the 274 comp extreme in a 302, and pulled 16" and for that engine it was a fairly radical cam.
Is this truck something you drive or just competition? I have used a Comp 280 and fast bleed lifters and pulled 15". I had a solid roller ground that will pull 15" also but it wouldn't work for the street very well.
For the cam get one custom ground. I have used Erson Cams and Cam Research in the past with perfect results from both. Scot at Cam Research was very good to work with and all they do is Fords. Have all the info on your motor and truck when you call cause he will ask alot of questions. Thats the only way to get exactly what you want. Custom cams don't cost anymore than shelf cams either.
