Switching mirrors question

I bought an '04' F-350 cc dsl. I came with the stock power mirrors. I would like to upgrade to the power tow mirrors that are heated and have the clearance/turn signal in them. My dealer says I cannot upgrade to the heated mirrors with clearance/turn because there is not wiring or switches in the truck to hook them up. In the past Ford used to run a "standard" wiring harness that included all of the hookups for every option, even if they were not used.

I am not sure if this is the case. Anyone have any ideas?

They only way to know for sure is to pull the door panel (or talk to an experienced bodyshop person) and check the wiring harness. OR--check and see if there are two different wiring harnesses for YOUR particular vehicle. Ford is sometimes peculiar in the way they mirror a vehicle. Memory in a vehicle (Towncars and such) can make the differnce in how a mirror hooks up and works. I'm not entirely sure about these trucks. I know they went through a period where they were changing and mirrors from the same year vehicle wouldn't work without the appropriate adapter harness. Again--the only way to know for sure is pull the panel and check the harness. Ford has one or two different mirrors for every vehicle---ask the parts guys--sometimes they don't even know if they look at it. Also, if your harness has a part number (something like F8EZ-69104-XXY) take it with you--it's invaluable in most cases.

I didnt have the correct harness to upgrade. I was thinking about running my own wires and switches but just didnt want to spend the time figuring it all out so I kept my standard towing mirrors. Popping the "sail plate" (upper right or left) to check is an easy way to see what you have. Get one of those wide pry bars made for this. Using a screwdriver might damage the sail plate. Open it up and take it from there. Simple first thing to check before you have to take off the door panel. Honest the door panel wasnt that big of a deal. From memory all I needed was a screw driver, pry bar and I think a torque bit. Been awhile since I replaced the factory speakers. Good Luck.

I bought the tow mirrors which are heated at an ebay f-250 site, they were the factory mirrors with the wiring harness, I put these on my 03. They were not set up for the turn signals but I don't beleive th 03's were set up for that option.

Thanks Tim. Typical "new user" mistake. Shortly after I posted the question here, I found the answer on a different forum. Oops.
