I just came back from the mountains with my '04 F350 4X4 Crew Cab shortbox. I had two sleds on the deck and 1 sled on two place trailer. I figured out my mileage and it worked out to 15 mpg...I didn't think that was very good. My truck has 20,000 and I just had a service done (oil, fuel filter, etc). Is there a different flash I should ask the dealer about? If so is there a # I should ask for? This is in Alberta, Canada..I don't know if there is a difference between Canadian and US flashes.
The truck runs fine except for the radio crapped out...wouldn't eject cd's, load cd's, play cd's......not having CD's when travelling 600 km and 300 of them is with poor radio reception really sucks!
Have you hauled anything with it before? What do you normally get for mpg's? What gears do you have? I would have to say that 15 in the mountains in the wintertime doesn't sound to bad to me. That is unless you used to get much better mileage for the same trip.

Gears are 373 and it's an automatic. This was my first trip to the mountains in this truck. I've pulled my 20' Nash Travel trailer in the summer and I recall getting 18.
What are you getting normally right now without pulling?
Most of my driving is around town and I'm getting 16 mpg. I drove to Red Deer (275 km)and back and my overhead display showed 18.5 litres per 100 km. On this trip with the sleds to the mountains it also stayed at 18.5 litres per 100 km.
If I was getting 15-16 I would be thrilled!!!!! I am lucky to get 13-13.5 not towing a damn thing in the flat state of Michigan with my '04 250 4X4 Supercab shortbox. That and the prices constantly going up and being $0.10-0.20 higher than reguar unleaded really has me P.O.'d.

Do you have the manual hubs or auto's? I often wonder if some of the trucks that are getting lower mileage have hubs that aren't fully disengaging. I know with my manuals locked in without even having the transfer case in 4x4 I will get about 2-3 mpg's than normal. Just my own observation.

Good observation. I get 16-17 around town and 18-19 on the highway lightly loaded in winter in South. I keep my tire pressure at 55 front and 68 back. I put Stanadyne in every tank. I have 4x4 and have checked my hubs to make sure they are unlocked. Mine is an 03 stock.

The air pressure is another thing that seems to make quite a difference in mileage. That and the tire sizes! I love bigger tires but they really affect mileage. I have the BF Goodrich's that came on the truck and I am running 65 psi in front and back (I haul a lot of wood so I want the higher pressure in the rear. Seems to make the ride a little rougher but probably helps the mileage.
I will be glad to get back to warmer weather with summer fuel and be seeing 19 mpg's again. The next best thing will be seeing Diesel prices dropping! Which hopefully will be soon. Seems like ever since I got this truck diesel has been $1.90 to 2.10 /gal. Was around $1.50 when I ordered a year ago. Still, I would rather have this truck than any other vehicle I have ever owned! I just have to figure out how to convince the wife into letting me get a tuner!!!!!!!
About the best I can do unloaded is about 18. Pulling anything it drops to about 12-15 depending on weight and terrain. I'd love to bust through to the 19 MPG mark. Am wondering if I should get the latest flash as I'm hearing good things about it, including increased MPG/faster spool up. I hesitate as the flash that's in it os (relatively) OK. Should I leave well enough alone? Truck has just shy of 9000 miles.
