antenna problem

I have a 1997 Ford Explorer - Eddie Baurer Edition - Black with the gold trim !1

I never had any problems with the vehicle - bought it new in 1998. I just recently had to throw $ 800 for the check engine light problem to be corrected (manifold gaskets and a few other emission problems and a tie rod - all needed fixed to pass the new New York State inspection)
I presently have 212000 miles on it and i think i will get another 200000 out of it - easily !!!
My power antenna just quit on me this morning - Motor works but the plastic part with the teeth that pull it over the gears - must of broke
Is this a difficult job if there is teeth laying within the motor housing?
How do you step by step get to the motor housing ?

While I do not know the step by step procedure, I know it must be pretty easy. I bought a new power antenae with the gear strip for my sister as a Christmas present and she and/or my borther-in-law figured out how to replace it. I know it seems like s weird Christmas present but she was complaining about no AM radio but did not seem to be doing anything about it. Neither sister or b.o.l are that mechanically inclined. Bought the antenae from Ford. Parts guy said this is a common problem. Seems like it was less than 75.00. Can probably do better at a parts house.
