I have been very happy with my 2000 F150 w/ 4.2. It has 156,000 good miles on it. I kept it, and bought a new 2005 w/ the 4.2.
My 2000 has the M5OD 5 speed. The '05 has an auto transmission.
The spec sheets I have seen show the 4R70E as the auto used in with the 4.6 and the 5.4, but they do not specify which auto is used with the 4.2.
Does anybody know? Heck, it might say on the transmission. I guess I could slide up uner the truck and take a peek.
But just in case, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
edit to add: Well, I'm back. I went and looked. It has METRIC and the letter S on the transmission pan.
What does that mean?
Take a look at the tag on the door. Under TR it should have an A or B. The A means it's a 4R70E which I believe is behind the 4.2 and a B means a 4R75E.
Thanks, I'll check it and see. I have seen the option code on the build it screens at the Ford site is 44a, so maybe that means it is the 4R70E.
The code for the higher torque rating behind the 5.4 is b.
It all makes sense, but I'll look at the tag to verify.
