i was ice fishing this weekend and after it had sat through the night on the ice i went to start it and it would just turn over, no pop or nothing. so i poped the hood and checked all the obvious stuff and because it was extremely foggy the engine compartment was covered in sweat. the fuel pump turned on and i could smell fuel after cranking so im pretty sure it isnt that. finally after cranking it some more a few cylinders would start to pop and it would kind of run only when cranking it over. this lasted a couple minutes and it finally started and ran normal. on the way home however i was pulling a trailer and when going up a hill in over drive i noticed it started to miss (detonate?) so i would take it out of over drive and it went away. my oil pressure is was also running a little higher than normal. it has started fine since so i dont know whats going on. i havent had the codes pulled or checked the timing but i dont really know where to start. also when taking off from a stop if i let off the gas quick it sometimes stalls but most of the time idles really low then is fine again so i dont know. any help would be appreciated. thanks!
I would definately start with checking for codes. It may need a tune-up. It's a long shot, but is it possible that the sweat or condensation you were referring to could have got into the distributor cap or some other electric part. From the sounds of it, your truck is getting fuel so I would look at ignition, filters and possibly a compression test if you don't find anything else. Could be a bad O2 Sensor or clogged Air Filter.
yeah im hoping that the condensation got into the distrubutor or the ignition module. the O2 sensor is pretty much brand new as well as the air filter. ill have to find someplace around here to pull the codes. thanks
How long since new cap and wires?Next time when it's wet or after a rain-,make sure all lights are off, including under hood.Start engine look closely you will probably see spark at wires, cap,or coil.
Report back please.
