My '04 has 6700 miles on it and will be a whopping 1 year old in a couple days. I am soon to be on my third warranty replaced battery. About four months ago I let the truck set for a whole weekend. To my surprise it was dead as a door nail when I wanted to use it. I spent an afternoon at the dealership sipping crappy coffee and watching Ophrah with the soccer moms and screaming kids. It was determined that my truck had a bad battery, and was electrically fine otherwise. This morning I had to rely on my 34 year old "back up" vehicle because again my new truck sat for a weekend. Before I spend another day at the dealership I would like to know if anyone else has had any similar problems? Other than being dead, when I jump start it and it starts the needles on the guages convulse for about ten seconds.
I have a 2003 5.4L Eddie Bauer Expedition my wife drives that does the exact same thing. We are on our 3rd battery. Ford told us it was our radar detector and XM radio draining the battery. The problem is, they turn off when the key is off.
I had the service manager perform a "drain" test on the battery by putting a meter in line with the battery. The readings were higher than normal but since the could not reproduce the high readings with the accessories, they said it was the accessories and wouldn't go any further.
