i just got back from Cleveland OH, i have an inside info guy. he works @ the ford engine plant in the casting design. ford has a new 6.2 block that will work for both gas and diesel they plan on building there own diesel not international. he told me ford has 3 new engines coming out. along with a hybrid truck, and car smaller than the focus.
gosh, when you tell people you got a 6.2 diesel in your truck, they will think of the junk 6.2 chevy and not like it so much. i hope they go back to injection pumps and one wire hookups like the old 6.9's and 7.3's
The company I work for just turned down a project to build a machine that would make fuel lines for a new International diesel. According to our customer, the end user was Ford, and the line sets were for the Powerstroke style injection (HEUI ??) There were a left, a right, and 8 injector lines. Too big a project and too short a timeline for our company. The production lines would be built starting spring of 2006, for a model year 2007 vehicle. Anybody else have any info on this kind of thing?
Scares me. Remember when GM converted a gas engine to diesel? I don't know if you can have it both ways.
Sure you can, but you have to do it the right way. My 1960 Land Rover had a gas engine that was the same block as their diesel... but it was built like a diesel! Roller lifters, etc. But you're right, peoples' first reaction to hearing about a shared block would be "aiiieeee, GM debacle all over again!" And I find it hard to believe Ford would do it anyway these days, where there's so much emphasis on cutting vehicle weight. Why design in what would be a seriously overengineered, heavy block for a gas application?
Sounds more like Ford is building a slightly bigger version of the IHC themselves, instead of having IHC supply the blocks - IHC is supplying the specs, Ford is putting bigger pistons in it and casting it themselves, they save money. Also, sounds like there's going to be a new heavy-duty gas motor for the big trucks... (and gas doesn't always mean gasoline either, propane/natural-gas, hence the reason for a "gas" heavy-duty truck motor).
The 6.2 gasser has already been announced by Ford. A bored out 5.4. It will be called the "Hurricane".
Old news.
Lots of rumors about the diesel. No facts. Just rumors. The rumors are that the diesel is meant to go into the F-150, not the SD. The SD will get a 6.4 made by IH.
