I have a 90 Bronco w/ 8.8 rear end. I'm looking to replace the 3.73 gears w/4.56 gears. New lift and 35's really slowed her out of the hole. I usually do all my wrenching, but have never changed the gearing in a rear end. I saw the tech article on Ford 9 inch rear ends - is the 8.8 similar or a different monster?
Just some thoughts.
A 9" is a very different setup, being a removable 3rd member and all. The 8.8 is a very straight forward swap, and that video that was recommended is a very good one. I found that for the amount of money I spent on the tools I needed, plus parts, was the same as how much it would cost me to have a shop do it. Good luck.
