remote connection for stereo ampilifer

I am installing a ampilifier for the cd player in a 02 crew cab powerstroke, the instructions says to connect the remote from the amp to the power source on the radio. I tried attaching it to the fuse for the radio, but it would power off when the key is turned off. Does anyone know which wire is the power lead for the radio ?

Thanks
jrb

Hey JRB
Does the CD player have RCA pre-outs for the amp? I am thinking of adding some boom to my system. A volt meter or circuit tester would answer your question in a hurry.
Cheers

the remote sensor wire on an amp needs to get power when the radio is on, so you need to take a test light and find a wire that is hot only when the radio is on (optimal) the mosat common source is a remote ant, lead. i know SD's dont have a remote ant. but there might still be a lead for it.

If you do find a remote wrie for the power ant., don't use it. It will power down when you put in a CD (The Ant would be coming down, if you are not listening to the radio!) The factory radio will not have an amp turn on wire, unless you have the premium system, which will have an intergrated amp behind the glove box....

They make several hi level (Speaker wire) to low level (RCA) adaptors. Look for one called a "Vendeta". It will have an adjustment on it to lower the output level, so as not to over power your amp. Also, it has a signal sensing relay. You run a switched 12v wire (Hot with ignition on) and senses when an audio signal is present. Then it activates a relay, sending the switched power to turn on the Amp. You can run ignition switched power to turn on your amp, but then it is on any time the truck is on. Only problem with this is you pick up "Turn on Turn off thump" and you may here a whine in your speakers if you are not listening to the radio.
