k i have a 351w I got out of an 84 econoline and the engine ran good for about 100 miles... (it had been sitting for a few years. it caught fire. but it started and ran great) any way. after about 10 miles or so the oil pressure would just fall off the gauge.. wich i figured it was just a sending unit problem as the one that was on there was a little old. plus every time it happened i was able to keep on driving with the temp being normal no loss of power and no noise from the engine indicating a lack in oil pressure. well yesterday on my birthday.... i was going along and the oil pressure dropped.. all is fine i figure so i keep driving (as i had previously driven 20+ miles after the drop with no problems)im prolly doin like 65 or 70 and i notice that the temp was rising rapidly so i pull off to the side of the highway...and sure enough water goin everywhere and a dead knock too high in pitch to be a bearing but too low to be a lifter. its most persistant under a load like accelerating but if you put it in park and rev it up it goes away.. ive got another oil pump (installed in the previous engine like a week ago)and just about everything on that engine was good but the crank...this knock aint good guys.. what can i do... i have verry little finances and need everyones input... i just need my truck to run for about a month.. or 1000 miles
Take the plugs out and top off radiator and turn engine over and look for water coming out spark plug holes. You may have a bad head gasket.
You could locate knock by taking spark plug wires off 1 at a time and running engine. I bad rod bearing/wrist pin will not make noise with no combustion. Just a few troubleshooting things U can do. GOD BLESS
well it stil could be the ehad gasket I just redid mine a month or 2 Ago and I could still drive it I found it by doing a comprssion test and recording the compression in each cyliner and #2 and #4 had the same exact compression at 45 psi way down from the 160 in the others... and since them 2 cylinders are next to each other it told me it was the head gasket. it will amke a knoick like sound as well mine did thought for suyre I spun a bearing or something so its worth checking first
Godbless
