HI
I HAVE A 94 EXPLORER THAT WHEN I PUT INTO DRIVE, IT DOESN'T GO INTO GEAR UNTIL I LET IT WARM UP FOR AWHILE AND REV THE ENGINE NUMEROUS OF TIMES UNTIL IT GOES INTO GEAR. AFTER IT GOES INTO GEAR IT SHIFTS NORMAL (NO SLIPPAGE) FROM 1ST TO OD EVEN REVERSE BUT THEN IF I TRY PUTTING IT BACK TO DRIVE IT GOES BACK TO ITS STUBBORN WAYS. WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP trANSMISSION SHOP JUST WANTS TO REBUILD IT FOR $1500.

We are pleased you have chosen the best source for Fords!
I'm not real good with transmissions, but is it the same behavior in manual 1? manual 2? D? OD? When you changed the filter, what did the fluid look like? Any "stuff" in the pan (chunks, grit, etc.)?
There are many a '94 owner that has had to replace their transmission. I am one of them. There is probably no reason to spend any money on the old one. I did and regret it.
Get a price on a Ford remanufactured tranny, it has a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. I found that they were not far off from the local tranny shop. Plus I had them install the "needed" transmission cooler.
Bite the bullet, replace it. Don't waste $ trying to fix the old one!
Like I Said The Only Problem That It Has, Is When You Put In To Drive It Takes Forever But After That It Shifts Fine With No Slippage In Every Gear. When Trans Filter Was Changed There Was Some Grit In The Pan But No Metal Particles.

THANKS I'LL TAKE THAT IN TO CONSIDERATION. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT ITS NOT SOMETHING MINOR LIKE A VACCUM LINE OF SOME SORT OR SOMETHING SIMPLE.
