ok I have my 86 5.0 ford xlt dual tanks (the one with 94 front clip and step bed)
anyway here is my problem....
it idles ok,but when it is in gear under a load it cuts out bad...
like it isn't getting any fuel..but it is I checked fuel psi seems ok...
don't know...when it is going down the road I can shift it into neutral
and it will rev to 6,000 rpm's no problem..put back in gear and it
acts like it is cutting out again....I have replaced plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor
...
any help would be greatly appreciated....
My '86 EFI 302 did that to me, too. Took me over $500 in repairs before I found out it was an $8 part.
In the fuel reservoir with tank selector (on the frame), there is a second fuel filter. Either replace or remove this filter. I put a new one in and my truck ran like new again. Hope that helps.
I installed a new filter when I did the plugs and wires today...
it is a good Idea...this same type cutting out happend before and like your situation
I replaced the filter and it fixed it...but not this time around
but thank you for replying
Which fuel filter did you replace, the one up towards the front? There is a second fuel filter back further along the frame that needs to be replaced as well.
If you have the electric tank switching solenoid, I'd check that also. Mine stuck about half way and it felt like the engine was starved for fuel. Try hooking up one tank direct and see if that helps.
