Ok, I am wanting to add power windows and doorlocks to my truck...... what is the best/cheapest way? I have a 1980 f-150 that has the sliding locks on the door panel not the popup type that are on the top.
Door panels with switches in them.
Electric door lock actuators
2 Electric window motors(LH/RH and window crank mechanism.
Wiring harness inside doors to the cab of the truck.
TWO 20 Amp circuit breakers
Ok, no local yard has anything in the year range ('80-'86) that I need. Anyone know if any other years will work? If I can find the complete doors off a '87 up and they work on my truck that would rawk. But if not that then anyone have any experience with the "addon" kits?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-May-02 AT 04:46 AM (EST)] Hey,
I went to local stereo shop and bought an auto page alarm and door lock actuators. Make sure you have about 30 feet of wire and the time to route everything right. The cost was $150 out the door. The actual install is simple and most shops will help with any questions. As for the windows, You can find everything you need at the same shop usually. BTW, I bypassed the interior door lock and just inserted the plastic covers it the door panels.
I looked for 3 weeks before going this route. My local yards had nothing or it was $400. It took me about 4 hours of actual install time. Just make sure if mounting L.E.D. that the jackass who wired old radio didn't put wires where they don't belong. I ended up having to take dash out and fixing four wires even after triple checking my location. They put some wires between the dash and metal mounting bracket.
I really like my set up for the auto locks, and you look cool getting the door for your lady without even having to put the key in the door.Jeff

Anyone know much about putting doors off a early to mid 90's f-150 on a '80 model? I cannot find anything in 80-86 but I can from like 90-96. I hear that only the door panels are different. Can't I just get the complete doors and put my panels on them?

The easiest way would be to hold one next to the truck. That will tell you if the lines match. While your at it make sure the hinges mount correct and your set. Jeff

doors up to 97 heavy duty will fit on an 80 model. door panels are different. window switches are different. your panels will not work because you have to have a place for the switches. i am putting the interior from an 87 supercab in my 81 reg. cab at this time. it is not easy to do the whole interior, but it will work. use the doors and the panels. if the panels are not the right color, either dye them or replace them.
I did it to my 86 Crew Cab. I did use power window motors and lifts from the junk yard. I ordered a cheap $35.00 electric door lock kit from www.partsexpress.com been working great for 4 years. It takes a little time and thought, but has worked out well. The windows were the most work as the doors have to be drilled in the right spot.
