V10 Mpg

Can someone tell me what the MPG with a V10 vs the 5.4 in the 05' 250 4x4? I want to order and can't pull the trigger. Also I'm ordering the 18" rims and wanted to know if it is worth the extra cash for the A/T upgrade. Thanks for the help.

From what Ive read on this forum, there aint much difference if any, everyone on here says go with the v10. Whats 600 bucks!!! Go w/ the v10. I have the 5.4 but i wish I had the V10, so let me live vicariously through you!!!

Typical for both the V8 and V10 are 10-14mpg depending on terrain, load, and driver right foot. The 5.4 can get a little better mpg empty but under load woirks harder so it is about the same a the V10. I personally think the extra $510-600 extra for the V10 is worth it.

I also highly recommensd the 5R110 auto trans. This is the first year Ford actually did someting very good and mated the TorqueShift behind the gas motors.. Much improved over the 4R100!

Your rear gear choices are 4.10:1 or 4.30:1 and I highly recommend the upgrade to limited slip and the 4.30s if you suspect you may want a bigger tire later on.

I have a 2005 F-350, Supercab, Lariet with the V-10. I get 9.6 mpg city driving and 8.2 mpg with my plow. I think it is woth the money getting the V-10. The 18 inch rims are nice but in my opinion Ford ripes you off charging extra for the all terrain tires. The Continental Conti Trac Tires are complete Garbage they try to put off as all terrain. If you get the torqueshift transmission do some reserch on when it was built. They are having major problems with them. My truck has 4500 miles and it has been fine so far. I have three friends who were not so luckey. Ford doesnt have the parts to fix all these transmissions. One of these guys had the transmission fixed 4 times already with only 12000 miles on the truck.

There are two issues with the 5R110 torqueshift trannys right now one is a weak snap ring and the other is a roll pin in a clutch basket that did not get properly staked in place. Both seem to fail under the riggors of forward reverse shigfting done when snow plowing. Usually eats things up and right now they are down for a while waiting the parts backorders to clear.

The is NOT a recal but there is a TSB. They have it narrowed to a specific set of months the trannys were assembeld. Something like Feb 04 through June 04 but don't hold me to that my memory is full of several different issues right now.

Do a search here and the diesel site and there is a ton of info.

I do not hesitate recommending this trany at all, they will get it sorted out pretty soon. This transmission is worth the wait and concern, yes the trans is THAT good!

Milage is the same, go drive a 5.4 and a 6.8, world of differnce! Go with at least the 4.10's, if you ever consider bigger tires get the 4.30's You get a TON more power for less then $600 and the milage really is the same.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm ordering the V10, just waiting for Jeff to call me back. I did get to drive a V10 yesterday and the only thing I'm worried about is how to keep it at the speed limit.
