Question tire question?

I was wondering if anyone ever heard of this a friend of mine , were talking about tires & he mentioned to me that most people dont know that when you you replace your original tires for bigger tires on a truck it throws the computer off & your gas will go quicker & speed ometer will be off he also said that the computer should be able to be set to the size of tire that you have replaced, any one know if this true or not?

Arrow Computer!

Upsizing tires does reflect in the readout on your speedometer. It does to a degree (based on the diameter difference) also affect your actual final drive ratio. The computer senses the atmospheric input (density, %O2, etc.) sensor input, and throttle manipulation by the driver. Considering what we expect our trucks to do this is quite extraordinary. There are guys on this forum with over 300,000 miles on these computers! It will adjust to the effect the tire diameter has on performance and work everything out. If you are running a low 3. something gearset no computer can over come the issue of torque, don't go too big with too numerically low a final drive.

Arrow Tires-Mileage

Here's the scoop in a nutshell: Larger tires lower the numerical final drive ratio based on the difference in diameter. Wider, larger tires generally have more rolling resistance than, say, a street radial. What are you driving? What engine/transsmission/final drive ratio do you have. You can find the rear axle code in the door jamb on a sticker in the area marked axle code. What mileage are you getting with the current set up based on the above information being complete? Post it and lets take a look and baseline where to start. Later days.
