Fuel filter location

I just got a 1985 F150 XL shortbed 4x4 302 engine, and am wondering where the fuel filter is? Thanks.

Go to the driver's side frame rail. Inside you will see the fuel lines coming from the tank. Follow them. They will go to the fuel pump first then to a black "canister" type thingie?! You have to open up the bottom using probably a oil filter wrench maybe. There is a rubber gasket that you will have to replace as well. Good luck!

Thanks

This is a southwest truck, with 4x4 4spd, dual tanks, air, tilt, XL, cruise etc, pretty neat truck, I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

Thanks, would you concur

that hesitation and "chugging" under a load on steep inclines would be a dirty filter? or at least a good place to start. The truck sat for a year before I got it, and I filled both tanks with fresh gas and injector cleaner. It seems to idle fine and runs well on flat surfaces. Thanks.

For sure. It's a cheap thing to do anyways and is preventative maintenance. You should do it once a year.
