I'm looking for a kit to convert the power steering on my 1974 F250 4X4 to the newer style. I know that there was a conversion kit on e-bay for sale but I cant find it. Does anyone know where I can buy a complete conversion kit? I am aware of the other option of utilizing a doner 78 or 79 setup.
i have the email address for the guy on ebay that sells the kits. i will be ordering one soon. i will list his address later. also he sells rear tanks conversions for highboys. found it sledding.betty@verizon.net if it doesn't work check item #7940289664 on ebay its an old listing but should be able to ask seller a question good luck
I dont understand why you are moving this post, it has to do with 73-79 trucks. The first place our fellow brotheren are going to look for thier answers to all their problems. I know that is where I go because it is where I can talk to people who actually know these years of trucks, not just some random in the steering forum that my not know jack about 73-79's. Please let us keep helping one another out. Thanks.
I guess all the conversions are different so it would seem that year specific would be left in the proper years and not grouped together. I dunno but it is hard to search if you are not one of the elite, seems the search menu is always busy.

Why convert? I have no problems with my new components of my highboy hydraulic assist steering. It took me an hour to swap in and I can turn my 33's
with a finger. But if you want to get rid of the parts let us, know.
how many power assist setups do you want? yea the work fine when they work. i got 2 complete setups here for grabs. everything works but the cyl puke oil all over.
I have the Ebay kit, and I love the truck since the installation. This thing rocks now, look at a past post in the 73-79 forum and you will see my review of it. really complete.

I purchased a kit from Scott Ibeling, it comes with a gearbox, pump, brackets for your particular engine, a mounting plate and hardware to fasten it all together. However you need to weld the plate in and modify your existing steering linkage to fit the new gearbox. You can also choose to modify your draglink or purchase a heavy duty adjustable one too. I have not finished my truck yet, but he said you could turn 40 inch tires on pavement with your pinky.
Just do a search for "Scott Ibeling" and a few posts will come up, one of them should have his phone number.
Best thing I ever did was go to the '79 steering box. Lots of junkyard trips and fabrication, but it worked. And 15 years ago, there wasn't a kit on Ebay
Did it without notching the crossmember too... but had a longer steering shaft and drag link, to boot...
Come to think of it, the power-assist control valve was totally unavailable at the time, or, it was $600 rebuilt.

i used a 67 two wheel drive steering box. just basically got some scrap steel. welded my steering arm to make it longer then on my shaft from my u joint to the rag joint i made it longer so i could hook it up to the steering box where i mounted it in the 78 79 spot made a piece of flat steel and welded it in place in the frame rail drilled it attached the gear box to it. took alittle time but saved me alot of money in the long run. im gonna have to take pictures not the pretties thing ive ever saw but it works good never had anything go worng with it yet and it been like it for a few years.
