i'm having some trouble with my 74' T-bird 9" rear-end. i'm trying to get the axles shafts out and i can find the c-clip that i need to take for the axles shafts to come out. The housing has two parts the top that is held on with five or more bolts, and the problem part "the bottom of the housing" it has around ten or so nuts that hold it on. the top came off easily and the bottom is being a pain and it wont come off, is there a screw/pin or anything else that could be holding it on because it just wont get off, and with all the prying that i have done it will have to come off because the gasket is in bad shape and i'm just lost because it looks like it should just fall right off but it seems like it is hung up on something.

I've never seen a '74 T-Bird 9", but the way you describe it, it doesn't sound like a 9" Ford axle. What is this 'top' and 'bottom' part of the housing you are referring to? The reason I ask is there isn't any way you could get inside a 9" to see if there are C-clips on the ends of the shafts because you first have to pull the shafts to remove the 3rd member and removing the 3rd member is the only way to get inside the differential to see anything, since the rear housing cover is welded on.
If this is a 9" Ford axle and you've unbolted the 3rd member and can't get it to come out, but still haven't removed the axleshafts, that's likely the reason why you can't get it out- the axleshafts are still holding the 3rd member assembly in place!
To take the axles out of a 9", just remove the brake drums and brake hardware, remove the 4 bolts on each end of the axle tubes holding on the backing plates and bearing retainer plates, and slide the shafts out of the housing. Now you're free to remove the 3rd member housing .

Yes. Still not sure on the 'bottom' and 'top' parts you're talking about though. The 3rd member is all one piece and comes straight out the front of the axle housing.
