Post Dry on start up ?

I have 81 f-100 , upon start up for about 5-10 seconds it sounds like there's no oil getting up to the head, the oil light stays on for 5-10 seconds. I put a high volume oil pump and cleaned the screen , i used to hear the lifters or tappetts making noise , but that has went away, just wondering what it could be ??? . On a normal start when the engine is warm the light only stays on for a second, this problem has been like this for about 2-3 years , but seems like it's lasting longer each time, if any one has a idea on what it might be please reply, thank you!

If you have a Fram filter, change to a different brand and see if it helps.

Dry on start up ?

I have the same problem, I get a knocking noise when I first start up until the oil circulates (I guess).. it stinks. And I'm not using a fram, I'm using a Motorcraft. Dunno.. :/

I recently changed to oil , i had havoline and my tech. said that it's not good oil , so he had penzoil syth. and restore . we put it in and it wasn't as loud as it was. i'll reply in a week or so to let ya know for good if it really mad a difference. Another tech. said it's normal for the lifters to be nosiey , he said replace them with cranes and also the roller rockers and it should be better .

man, somebody wants your money!!!!!!!what you have is a worn motor. not worn out, just worn. got a little extra clearence around eveything inside the engine, and it just takes a little longer for everything to fill with oil again. as long as the mains arent knocking i wouldnt worry about it.
