One of my electric cut-out vlaves broke recently. I cannot find the orginal cut-out caps. I used a piece of what appears to be 1/4" lead plate to fabricate a cap (2.5" cut out cover). Is there any danger in running this way for a while? I need my truck to be in legal mode for a bit!

I doubt there's any danger. But if you want to add a little more weight to your truck you might call the government to see if they have any 1/4" spent plutonium or uranium plate they could let you have.
I was lucky to have the plate laying around. Lead is also very soft to drill through and it makes a great soft sealing surface....Just wish I cold find the original covers....I'm so disorganized :-(

these are McCord Power Plates. the actual valve broke off the rotating axle. The weld just gave up... I'm a little dissapointed. But, they may have experinced some extra stress when the motor mount came undone at the track wed.
