I watched the auction on Speed Channel last night---VERY COOL! However, why does every rod-builder put a small-block Chevy in every Ford they build? I know parts are cheaper and more available, but why can't someone build up a Ford?

Mike Joy said that Ford and Dodge is now just comming around in their crate motor program. Before it was mostly chevy, and if you wanted a Ford you had to build it, so most guys would finish their rod, they would just throw an out of the box chevy in it.. You couldn't buy one like you could a chevy. Hence, that's why Ford had the old Mustang with the new 5.0L crate motor for sale up there. The car was from last years auto shows advertising their new crate motors. I've also noticed Summit Racing now has a whole line of different Ford Racing crate motors available that they used to not have.
Did anyone see the oldsmobile sell for 3 million? That's the highest Barret-Jackson ever sold a car in the auctions 34 year history.
To me it shows a complete lack of creativity to put a small block Chevy in a Ford rod. Years and years ago, it may have been a novel idea, but nowdays, I would much rather see a Flathead or Y-Block Ford in a Ford rod. I'm also not a big fan of all the billet aluminum stuff that it seems every rod has on it nowdays. I much prefer to see steel wheels with smooth hubcaps and a few chromed parts but not too many. Guess I like it Old School .
I hate it when I go to the local car shows with the '69 428CJ Mach I and watch some guy with a piece of fiberglass that somewhat resembles a '30's something "Ford" with a 350 and Corvette suspension take the big trophies and he has the nerve of calling it a Ford. What is on it that is even Ford. I've decided that I'm going to get my revenge by building a '68-'69 Camaro RS/SS with the hideaway headlights and install a big bad Ford 390. Might even put a big Powered By Ford sticker in the back window and then take it to Carlisle for a "Super Chevy" (what ever that's supposed to mean) show and see what they've got to say about that. HA!! Stupid crossbreeders.
a guy i know from work had his 66 unibody pickup completely restored by a local shop. they talked him into sticking in the chevy small block. ick. makes you want to vomit when he pops the hood.
I agree 100 %, It's time for some Justice, "Power By Ford",,, into a GM,,,Just because !..A few months back we noticed like a 66' Chevelle for sale,,I said to my son's,,we should buy it and put Ford Power in it,,,Just because! They both agreed, said it would be cool to see the Chevy guys go off on that,, , ,,,,
The biggest reason is availabilty and cost. Fords own fault for not sticking to one engine design. That said I much perfer a Ford in a Ford. Of course for me it has to be a big block. I just wish the parts where cheaper but they are coming down.
Hates when i see a chevy in a ford. But i'm glad Ford didn't stick with one engine design like shevy cause if they did everyone would be the same. The only difference would be how much money you can drop into that 350. But with ford you have a choice of engines to choose from Build upon. So that means everyone that has is different. Just think you walk down the rows upon rows of cars and ask the owner what they run most would say 350 chevy if they were chevy's. But do that at all Ford show and you'll get different answer oh i have a 302 or 289 , i got a 351.and so forth. So i'm glad Ford has different size engines for us to choose from then a mass produced 350 chevy where your the same as the next guy on down the line. Sorry kinda got carried away.
