66 torn apart!!!!
We have it almost completely stripped down and havent discovered to much except that this truck has never been in an accident. Also it didnt want to come apart without a fight.
amazing.....
Upon inspection, we found slight rust in the front corners of the cab,but nothing major.
Cab mounts were sweet!.....
Also, a bit of rust right on the floorboards by the drivers side door.
The radiator support had a couple small blowouts on the outside...but nothing structural. (I have heard alot on this site about these completely disintegrating).
The roof has a couple of rusted through spots in the drip rail, but we were prepared for that.
The bed is looking great, nothing but little things here.
Other stuff.....
I got all new rubber for the windows, cowl & doors, new glovebox, door panels in black, armrests, window rattle kit,"camper special" inserts.
We are going to clean up all the wiring under the hood to simplify the look of the engine compartment.
It was pretty cool to get it to this stage, and see how simple these trucks really are....and really cool to find out that this truck has had an exceptional life..It gets a ton of comments everyday from the people whos shop we are using. (The "hubcaps of death" are quite popular).
I am glad that I decided to do a frame up job & not just slap paint on it like some of my friends have suggested. Because I am pretty sure this truck would have developed some serious rust issues had we not tore it apart and done it right. It is going to look badass when it is finished!
It is coming along quite nicely, and I am excited about getting it back on the road ASAP!!!!

my very first truck was a 66 I got when I was 14 I spent the nexy 2 years working on
it and installed 351 w and c-4..boy was I proud of that truck when I was 16

I never did put a headliner in it I got all of my friends who rode with me to sign
the roof of it.I sold it later in life...I am 34 now and I regret selling it....
live and learn I guess....LOL
Good luck w/ your restoration.
dave
Fresh motor, tranny, rearend, wheels & tires, drop I beams & interior all came first. Actualy got to drive it quite a bit after each upgrade was done.
Now the paint & bodywork is last on my list, then time to enjoy it. There will be little things for the interior & outside that I can do to keep me interested later. Like gauges & a turned dash panel....maybe put a headliner in........definately a tonneau cover.
We are cataloging everything possible to help ease the assembly process.

I sold it a few years later when I thought that 4x4's were more fun (if I only knew what that would cost me!) and now I want it back. I am now using a '64 Ford to create a clone of my '66 Merc.....with a few upgrades along the way!
Mike.
