Im going to a local junk yard tomorrow to pick up a set of 1 ton front coils out of an econoline van tomorrow. They look real beefy and long (Im sure they're longer than my 4" lift front coils now) while still retaining the same diameter. does anybody know if they interchange fairly easy? has anybody even done this upgrade? I think if it works it will be one of the cheapest most worthwhile upgrades.
I was thinking of the same thing, but decided against it. (and this is just my pair of pennies) A bronco II only weighs at most 3500 lbs, and putting springs on there designed to carry 2000 lbs will make the ride like you have no suspension at all, I do see where you are coming from though, 1 ton springs on a small truck = bigger lift. I would only consider doing that if you are going to use a 5.9 Cummins or a diesel. I would personally pull some springs off of a f-150 with a 300 in it. a 300 isnt too heavy but it will give you a lift and also have some suspension travel. And I am assuming you are still running the stock V6 and drive line.
I have 4" springs with a 6" kit I just pulled from a ranger I bought. im in the process of transfering them to my b2. I have to use the front driveshaft from the ranger which im sure is longer. I dont care about the stiff ride, thats a plus for me. I am running a 2.9, but I have a huge front bumper and im running 33's with 10" rims. I just want the front to be at a better height. I have a 6" rear lift off the ranger and it is even taller under the bronco 2. I just dont want the front sitting low. BTW- the f-150 springs look shorter and more feeble than my springs I have now.
well like I said just my pair of pennies. I have 30" tires under my II and I have no problem what so ever with clearance, but my rims are only 7 in wide. are you taking the 4" off and replacing it with the 6"?
if you want a little more lift than stock springs you can get yourself some from an explorer that will give you about 1.5 to 2inch lift depending on truck same thing with leaf springs if your looking for a bigger lift you can get yourself some from an f150 they give you about 2.5 to 3inch lift remember anything you do something like this you have to align the front end.
are you taking the 4" off and replacing it with the 6"?
No, alot of companies used the same kit for 4 inch and 6 inch lifts, they just changed the coils. I can tell thats the situation with mine because of the way it sits. Mine has a 6" kit with 4" coils. I wanna put the 1 tons in there with the 6" kit.
I dont have a kit currently on my B2. The ranger I bought has the 6" kit with 4" front springs on it. Im taking it off the ranger and putting it on the B2. But while I have it off, I wanna put in the 1 ton coils on the 6" kit im putting in the bronco.
