so everybody i just got this new magnaflow put on my 5.4 i was really stupid and had 2.5in pipe used with no tip..... sooo the question i have for all of you is how much louder would it be if i put on a big 3.5in tip....
so if the tip only effects tone then how do i make it louder??? can i replace the 2.5in piping with 3in or should i just have all of it cut off and just dump it(i really wanted to stay away from dumping because its really loud in the cab)
Should have bought another muffler. Magnaflows are not known for being the loudest, but they sound good. Putting bigger pipe can make the sound deeper, but still not louder.
If you want loud, get a glasspack of a Flowmaster. IMO, the Magnaflow sounds better though.
i love the magnaflow... i think the reason i wasnt getting anysoud is becasue it was running through like 6 feet of pipe... so i ended up just cutting it off today and putting a turndown tip on it and it sounds really good... even tho its not real loud it still has a really clean tone
One advantage of using a muffler that is often overlooked is its capabilities as a heat sync. Ever wonder why a flowmaster is constructed of heavier gauge material compared to other mufflers? It helps to draw heat away from the heads and are especially effective when used with headers. Just thought i would throw that as for food for thought.

you shouldnt have bought a magnaflow muffler, in my opinion, the magnaflow doesnt sound good on any application, and its definately not loud....flowmaster super or original flow 40's is what ya want
