anyone have any recommendations for an electric cooling fan set-up for a 71 F-250 4x4 (360)?

check the FTE sponsors' sites. I would suggest Flex-a-lite and use a relay through your ignition switch, because electric fans can wreak havvok on your electrical systems, like, back feeding electricity when you turn off your motor causing your ignition system to recieve false signals causing your engine to diesel when you turn it off among other things.

also use a temp acuated switch so you don't have a problem with your engine NOT warming up.

HEY 240, sounds like there's a long story behind that advice.

yeah, a buddy in the nissan club I am in just wired his fans up to the ignition switch, and when he turned his car off, the fans kept turning acting as a generator, sending electricity back to the ignition switch and eventually to the coil thus keeping it charged until the fans stopped turning. Electricity is really wierd like that. so we added a relay to the curcuit and everything was A-O-K! as far as the temp switch is considered, that's just something that makes sense to me.

yeah, we had it running super nice, then we spliced into ignition with the fan power leads, we tested it with the engine off, and it worked great!! job well done! then he went to work the next day and was all like....WHAT THE!!!!!! this ain't right! so we tinkered with it for some 45 minutes, and then called the MFG. they told us exactly where we went wrong, what relay to get and where to hook it up with what fuses and everything, they were very helpful. so yeah, I would get a Flex-a-lite if I were to put one on my truck.
