Which truck?

Ok, I have narrowed it down to either a 351M or 351C, which tranny would match up with this and not have issues with the hp and durability in general?

I'd take the 351M, stroke it to a 400, mate it to a C6 automatic, put a Cloyes True Roller timing set, a Comp Cams 265DEH, Crane roller rocker conversion set and Crane roller rockers, a Weiand 8010 intake with a Demon 625 Carburetor.

the C6 is the best auto, for manual the T-18 and NP435 there both just as good, also a zf tranny, much more expensive but the best manual tranny for the ford big block

Ok, I found a '79 351W powered p/u. Is this a good engine or no? I have heard that the nickel content went down around this time and in doing so it made the motor crap. That some need constant rebuilding every 5k. So any info would be cool.

Whomever told you that is an idiot...

A few blocks were cast higher nickel, but they were all plenty strong.

Unless that truck had the 351W put in, its not a 351W.

The W is a good motor, and lot of performance parts can be had for such a jewel.

OK, so does that mean that it is in fact a W or is this person just spewing random info without knowing anything? It is supposed to be an original engine so...

if it's a 79 with the original 351 in it, then it has to be a 351M since ford didn't start making the 351w until '80
