I am new to the Forum and have a problem with my 2000 Exp. When moving at highway speeds in O\D and givve it a little bit of gas it i get a mis but it does not throw a light when i ive it gas enough to downshift it is fine. I has been happening for about a month i figured it would throw a light by now. I have changed boots and plugs recently and i wonder if it is a 'cop' but i am not sure how to check them. Could this also be a problem with my transmission or torque convertor. It has 67000 miles and i can't figure this out. Thanks in advance.
The problem you mention is one of the toughest to accurately diagnose without a code. If it's not too severe, i.e. you can live with it for a while, you'll probably get a code sooner or later.
Regardless of the cause of the apparent misfire, I would replace the transmission fluid. You may luck out and address the problem this way, as some Expeditions develop a torque converter-induced stuttering that can often be addressed by a fluid change.
You might also consider changing other fluids if you don't have a service history on the vehicle. Fresh antifreeze can delay the onset of corrosion-induced problems with the engine cooling/cabin heating system. Changing a rotted and leaking heater core is not easy, cheap or fun on these vehicles.
