Cool Going Crazy

I have an 89 F-150 2wd stick shift with an 302 engine. My problem started about a month ago with a antifreeze leak. Replaced radiator,t-stat,3 hoses. All is ok now in the cooling department. Now my problem is electrical. As I am driving my truck just goes dead. Everything goes out, but comes right back on. I have checked for loose wires, connections and even replaced the alt. I am lost. The truck runs fine until it goes dead the the engine either speeds up to about 3,000 rpms or wont hardly idle. But when it isnt going dead . Everything is just fine. I have noticed that when the truck is about to lose electrical power the oil guage starts to read very high oil pressure. I dont know if this has anything to do with it. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP!!!!

Sounds like you may have a grounding problem. Make sure that all of the grounding straps to the motor are in place and that the connections are not corroded. Also, I know you said you have checked for loose connections, etc., but I would check all connections to make sure they are not corroded and are clean and tight. If this doesn't fix your problem then you will need to look behind the dash for possible loose connections or bad grounds. Since your oil pressure gauge starts to read high just before the engine quits leads me to believe you are geeting high resistance in the electrical circuitry which is usually caused by a poor ground.

Around your year truck, there have been several people on here who have had the whole fuel injection system go dead on them. Every one of them found a little ground wire hooked on, near, or around the battery negative, that ran over to a connector, and then was bolted to the sheetmetal someplace. All of them found the connector corroded, or the wire corroded in two, or the connecting end was corroded.
