I now realize that my glowplugs have never worked since I bought my truck! It always started fine during the warmer months, but the past few months it wouldn't start without being plugged in for a few hours. I decided to finally crawl under the hood and check things out. After testing the glow plug relay, i discovered that although it was clicking on and off, it was not passing voltage across to the glow plugs. I called Ford, they want $137.00 for a new one. I called NAPA, they wanted $148.00 for a Standard brand and $54.00 for an Eckland brand. I called Carquest, and they had the exact same Standard brand RY-175 for only $23.00! I had it replaced in 10 minutes, and the truck actually started up on it's own without being plugged in! I love it when things work like they are supposed to! Anyway, thought I would pass that along. It pays to shop around.

I have the same problem with my truck. Not much of a mechanic but try to do things myself. Where is the glow plug relay located at under the hood?
Welcome aboard! On my truck, which is a '97, the GPR is located under the black plastic cover that is on top of the engine. If you lift up the lid, it is located right next to the fuel filter canister on the passenger (right) side of the engine right above the valve cover. It has 4 terminals on it, 2 big ones and 2 small ones.
