locking hubs

My 4 wheel is not working, the problem seems to be the locking hubs...they don't move at all.... I've heard that i can swap in a set of warn locking hubs and 86 the vaccum line... it seems more cost effective to do this then replace them with a stock ford set. any thoughts?

If you do that swap, then you basically have the same setup as a non-ESOF truck (except that you put yours in 4x4 with a switch instead of the lever). In other words, you have to get out and lock your hubs in before you can use 4WD... whch could easily include locking them in days or weeks before you use 4WD (like when the weatherman is predicting snow soon), which makes shifting in and out easy, but comes with the extra noise and worse mileage of driving around with locked in hubs all the time.

Just make sure you're OK with that before going to the manual hubs.
