I believe the Craftsman Tap and Die sets are made by Vermont American, they are definatily good quality and lifetime warrentied. Iwrin taps are pretty equilivant if you're buying the same grade of taps carbon, HSS etc.
Irwin-Hanson...my set is ACE-Hanson...I guess Hanson is the wild card...my set is older than myself. Import sets are great for thread chasing, that's about all IMHO....unless you're into plastics
Craftsman taps and dies are made by Vermont American, which is owned by Robert Bosch Tool Corp. They make the screw extractors, both square and spiral, for Craftsman and also for Irwin-Hanson and other brands. They have both carbon steel and High speed steel sets of taps and dies and have been making them in the same plant since 1961 in North Carolina.
