California specific idiot light question.

Hello everyone.

As I reside in CA and will be working to get my 1989 Bronco running soon, I am wondering what to do about the oil pressure pressure gauge issue that keeps causing my 'check engine' light to come on all the time. I have had all sorts of work done to deal with this, including dealing with the classic sending unit matter, but the light stays on.

Normally, I wouldn't worry too much about it, but unfortunately, when it comes time for me to get the vehicle smogged, the inspector won't pass it if the light is activated.

Does anyone have any suggestions about fixing this? At this point, I feel fairly confident that it isn't a mechanical issue, but what I assume (from reading this, and other Ford sites) is a problem with the gauge(s).

Thanks in advance!

This is by no way fixing the problem - but you could take the lamp out or discconect it for the test if it means you get more time to fix the root cause of the problem & have the vehicle on the road with the right paperwork etc.

Muckypaws...that only works if they are in a hurry or don't care. Here in Colorado, they turn the ignition to the start position without the engine running to make sure the light itself works. **** freaks!

Yes you are quite right - I never stoped to think about that. As I said - it doesn't fix the problem, just the symptoms which is not the right way to go in a professional world.

Thanks for the replies. I may just have to find a way to complete fix the problem...that's not that big a deal (I hope), fortunately, I have the time to do it that way...I sort of wonder what happens to people with this problem in their daily driver!

Maybe I'll just wait until I move out of CA? LOL!
