Well, I searched this forum a little, and didn't find the answer to my question. It seems all y'all with 5.4's have F-150's, right? So your mileage numbers are for F-150's.
I'm curious if anyone knows the average mileage of, say an '01 SD with the 5.4? Auto tranny, 4x4, s-cab LB
I'm not going to tow a lot. It's probably going to be like a yard of crushed rock here and there, and the usual pickup stuff.
I know you're probably going to steer me in the direction of a PSD, which I've considered, but I test drove the exact(except an '02) vehicle I described above, and it seemed very strong. THANKS
I picked up an '02 SD CC short bed 4x4 two weeks ago. The first tank got 280 miles, half highway and local, which equated to 11 MPG. Second tank looks like its coming in at 9 MPG, but that was with 150 miles of 4x4 driving due to the Northeast blizzard. I am hoping for 10 to 11 around town. My '00 6 cylinder Jeep Wrangler was getting 11-12 around town, so I am pretty happy.
One thing I don't like is that the auto tranny defaults to overdrive, so you need to shut it off everytime you start it. I do alot of local driving, rarely above 55, so I wish it would default to regular drive with the option of turning on the overdrive when I need it.
I had a 02 extended cab with a cat back,k&n and programmer. I could get 14 mpg with 70% highway driving. The truck ran great unloaded. It could handle a load but mileage dropped and it took twice as long to get there
