oil pressure sensor
What is the difference between the oil pressure sending unit on a 1981 5 litre engine and a 1986 3.8 litre.
Heres the full monty. My oil light on the 5 litre began to glimmer when at a stop sign. The engine still sounded fine though. So I figured it my be the oil sending unit. So I hauled one out of a 3.8 litre and it screwed right in the block of the 5 litre fine. But when i started the truck the oil light failed to light up when I turned the key to the starting position.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Design changes.
Amount of pressure to turn the light off(as in and older vehicle had MORE oil pressure 45-55 psi and the newer has LESS 35-45 psi)
S/U for gauges are different than S/U's for idiot lights.
Buy one according to what you have,an *81 5L with idiot lights*.
They may look the same but, there could be a world of difference.

It probably is different, and one way you could check is go to the auto parts store and ask them to look up both and see if they have different part numbers. Also, make sure you don't use sealer or tape on the threads of the sender. It has to have a good ground to the block. They actually run 12 volts to the light all the time, and the sending unit grounds the light to turn it on.
