It sounds like you have some wiring problems in the wire bundle that goes from the cab to the left door. Get access to this bundle by removing the left door panel and the left kick panel. Start moving it around to determine where the shorts are. You can unwrap the covering on the bundle to repair the wires.
Definately sounds like an electrical short somewhere. A likely place is between the door and frame. When the door is open you'll see a bundle of wires in a rubber boot between the door hinges. Check the boot and wires.
I'm surprised you haven't blown a fuse yet. Most electrical shorts blow a fuse pretty quick. Could it be that the door unlock/lock circuit is not fused, so a blown fuse doesn't keep you locked in the car?
Anyway good luck, find that short before it drains the battery or damages the alternator.
Try taking the metal runner off the bottom of the door frame and look for corroded wires there. Water and dirt collect there. I found a bad wire there on my '92 F-150. Lots of wires going through for interior lights and electric mirrors, etc.
