Adding a sub to a 2004 Expy

When we were shopping for out Expy, there were two vehicles in the color my wife liked. One had the navigation and the other had the basic CD/tape HU. I didn't want the navigation for the cost since I know how to navigate myself quite nicely and my wife wanted the 6 dish indash. To close the deal, the dealer swapped an audiophile 6 disc w/ the SAT button in place of the tape/CD. My brother is a tech at the dealer and did the work for them (swapping). He recalled that the one we own now had only the two standard connectors and the one coming out of the donor had three. I know now that it was for the sub on the audiophile system. My wife finally asked me where the bass was. I never drive it so I played with the setting and could not improve the low end. Well after about 6 month go by I order the Sirius upgrade and the guy confirms by fear. The audiophile deck filters out the lows to the door speakers and feeds it to the sub that I don't have.

So....I can wire a shielded sub cable and power for the sub into the factory system, but is there a kit with the connectors (8 pin at deck and 10 pin at factory sub) I'd like to go aftermarket for the amp and sub, but there is no room for anything in the thing. Is this a typical Ford scheme to not put in the harness for the sub on a $48k vehicle to save $5???? I have not verified that the connectors are there or not, but I think my brother confirmed it.

Motorcraft has repair harness pigtails, but I could not find them in the catalog that matched (WPT-???) for each end. Is there another source for these that would have a valid part number?? I not trying to go competition. I just want to use the factory speakers, HU and Sirius kit and have the bass. Getting the sub/amp assembly is easy.

I'd have to get back to you with the ford PN's.

Here is a list of parts needed
  1. 8 pin sub connector on back of "equipped" radio. I have a Phase II 6 disc Audiophile w/ the Sirius SAT button in place of the CD. It has the connector for the sub on the back. I am not sure about the other "Premium" decks.
  2. Misc wire to make harness, solder, etc.
  3. 10 pin connector at sub amp (if not part of body harness). You can buy the connector. It is in the Motorcraft Catalog "WPT-???". I have the PN somewhere. If you have Eddie Bauer then you have the body harness and not the dash harness as my case was. I just wired it in at the driver kick panel for the signal +, signal -, amp on, and shield then ran it to the 8 pin behind the head unit. The 10 pin connector was already waiting at the sub/amp location.
  4. Sub/amp enclosure from dealer. Took 3-4 weeks to get once ordered.
  5. new rear interior quarter panel (found out at end of project when the deep tray was where the sub enclosure sits.) The panel with the sub has a grill cut in where the sub cone is. Right now it rattles the crap out of the panel since it is sealed. It's on order....
I did get the Visteon Sirius tuner installed. It works perfect!

If you have further questions, let me know. I will try to find my receipt with the ford numbers in the next day or so.

Thanks jetskier. Actually I am not installing in an Expy, but I do have the materials out of an 04 Expy so I'm learning how Ford performed their installation in that truck to better make it work for my own Ford product.

Thanks for your help.
