Thumbs down Internet ID help

Help!Somebody has been sending my daughter e-mails making a bunch of false statements about me.The poor girl is really upset about this. After 25 years of not knowing me,to have someone slander me the way this person is,bothers the heck out of her.I told her that it was probably someone that is a coward and is afraid for me to find out who they are,and that the things they were saying were far from true.Well,my little girl is pretty smart, and after rereading the things that this person wrote, she found a lot of contradictions in what this person was saying. That and the fact that she could ask her little sister if any of it was true, and of course her little sister said no it was not. So,I need to find out how I can ID this person or this yahoo account. If you have any ideas,I am all ears!

That is a bad deal, KT.

Somebody might be getting a change of attitude, huh?

But, I think I would call the authorities and report it for what it is: Harrassment.

Maybe they can get through to your server and force them to give up the "cowards".

Just right click the e-mail > Then click properties on the .
This will bring up the persons address along with some other stuff.

Send a copy of this with your complaint to that persons host site.

E-mai me for more info if you don't understand l

Wow. Sounds like someone isn't happy about you finding your daughter. Could be someone close to you or her. Be careful. Hope you get to the bottom of this quick.

Open the email header. It will have the Internet Protocol (IP) Address in it. You can find many programs to trace the IP to a physical location (If they are behind a proxy server or a firewall then you are probably out of luck). Or you can call yahoo and BEG then to give out there name that or any other information that they registered with if they registered with legit information. Good luck. Also if you have the IP address then you call ISPs (internet service provider) and see who supports the IP Address and find the location of the computer.

EDIT: Or PM me the IP and I will find the info for you.

Well,Im lost.I tried doing what you said Mil1ion,and I right clicked on it and I got nowhere.I sent a pm to bvoncannon,I hope I can find out who is doing this.I have a pretty good idea, but dont want to make any accusations until I am sure.I sure am glad my daughter was smart enough to read between the lines and figure out that this person is just an evil, sick person who gets their jollies out of smearing other people.

If it's yahoo mail, it'll be coming from Yahoo's servers and the headers won't reveal any details about the real sender.

If you have a pet lawyer, maybe they can draft a letter requesting that Yahoo reveal what information they have on that account, and possibly Yahoo would comply. But, if the person is smart they'd access Yahoo from public internet computers which would make it virtually impossible to ID them precisely. Still, knowing where they'd accessed Yahoo from might provide a big hint as to their identity.

It should be possible to craft an email message which contained embedded images which would load from a web site... that site could log who was loading those images... so, _if_ the perp reads email sent to their account, their current IP address would be recorded. Do you know any internet gurus with a web site who could set up a trap like this?

I agree with Cowboy here. This is definitely the quickest and simplest way to stop them. And it will buy you some time until you can get to the bottom of this in another way.

Your kids should not be subjected to this kind of harrassment so I would block sender right away and keep an eye out fo new emails coming from new addresses that they may make up. And keep looking for ways you can track this down and put a more permanent stop to it. Good luck K.T.

If this person is smart at all they are using Yahoo themselves which is a totally untrackable email address, and you trying to get yahoo to comply? Very doubtful.. They would be setting themselves up for invasion of privacy, especially if this person has not made any threats. They would have no legal standing. Even if you could get Yahoo to send you their name, how would you know it was really their name? I can go into Yahoo and change my name over and over and over. If it were me, I would setup this program that I have and embed it in an email that you send back to them and hope they open it. The program that I have made sends you their IP address by emailing it to you, then you can track where it's at through geobytes.com. If they are running on a proxy server you would have no luck at all, unless they ever changed their IP back to automatic settings, and then the program would send you another email. Then, you could at least see where this person lives. There's another IP address tracker that I won't give out on here, but I can take any IP address and track it down and find everything out about the person. I did a test on myself and it showed me my ZIP code, area code, phone number, who my internet connection was from, exact lat and longitude coordinants where you can then get where their house is at, then you have their address. From the phone number you can go to whitepages.com and do a reverse search and get the person's name. Nobody is safe anymore.

Unless the person actually made a thread of bodily harm I doubt there is much that can be done. Yahoo and hotmail are freebies; there is little reason for them to offer much assistance. And as was noted, they won't be giving out the guys home address or name, if in fact the person even used their real name and home addy when setting up the email account. The best you can probably do is get the IP addy and name of the city of the ISP provider, but that by itself won't send you to the persons doorstep. The ISP will have a range/block of addys. Ok, so you found the addy. Now you need to somehow find out who had that exact addy for the given date or time (assuming dymanic ISP addys). Good luck.

Somehow, I sense that the perp is a person you know since they sent the email to you (your daughter) directly. This is not typical everyday spam. Make this situation easy to deal with; do exactly what they don't want/expect you to do and just ignore them. This will irritate them to no end; they are expecting a big reaction from you and you didn't play into their hands. Myself, I'm kinda busy with my life so I've got better things to do than feed fuel to the fire of some cretin.

If ya wanna play games and waste some time, why not use their email addy and sign them up for some free product information/advertising, if ya catch my drift .
