[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Jul-02 AT 08:38 PM (EST)]I am going through the brakes on my recently purchased F350 duelly and can’t quite figure out the automatic adjusters on the rear drums. The brakes are considered heavy duty with 3” wide shoes and they are a bit different then the regular brakes from what I understand.
I have confirmed the lever arms and star wheels are correct for the respective sides and installed correctly (compared with new parts for each side). But, when I manually pull up on the cable that activates the lever it just slides past the star wheel. Plus, the direction the wheel must turn requires the lever to move it on its return not as it is drawn up.
I have switch star wheels from side to side (just out of curiosity) and the adjusters work as I thought they were supposed to. Pull up on the cable and the lever moves the star wheel and expands the shoes as it is drawn up and then ratchets past the wheel on its return. But, this conflicts with the part confirmation and the service book on the way it is supposed to go together.
Thanks for your response but, I have figured it out. While the star wheels were on the correct sides they were installed backwards. Turned them the right way and it is working just as it should.
