Hey guys, I recently purchased a 96 f150, 91K, with a 302. I'm getting close to having to fill up since I got it and I don't think the gas milaege is up to snuff so I'm gonna be doing a routine tune up. I was looking to see if it has ever had a tune up before or not and noticed the plug wires are still OE ones but don't look that bad.
My question is:
They have 1996 printed on them (the plug wires), does this mean they are orginal or does the 1996 printed on the mean something else?
It makes sense if they are orginal and I'll probably change them anyways, I was just curious.
Most rubber products will have a date code for manufacture on them if you can decipher it - also look at your radiator/heater hoses for date codes. Definitely replace and make sure you get good quality wires - some will give trouble from installation.
Presently have Autolite Platinum plugs installed 25P - so far so good; have used 25 also with good results however am getting better mileage than ever I think 15-17 mix around town and Istate with Platinum. 302 S/C 3.31 AODE
O'rielly's has Borg Warner Magnetic Core Wires with a lifetime warranty vs. the Motorcraft with one year warranty. Think I'm gonna go with the Borg Warner with Motorcraft Platinum plug. At least that's what the dude at O'reilly's recommended. What do you guys think.
What about the cap and rotor? They have Borg Warner and Motorcraft. Should I stick with Motorcraft?
I just hate doing things over, that's why I'm asking.
