2005 6disc mp3 player problems
I have a 2005 F150 with the indash 6 disc changer w/MP3 player. I have not been able to get an mp3 filled disk to play yet. I have tried 2 different burners, several different CDs, and have finalized the discs with no luck. The display reads "Reading Disc" for quite a while, then reads "Bad Disc" and ejects the disc. I have done searches on several forums and haven't seen any real answers to this problem. Does anyone have any ideas, or do I need to take it back to the dealer and have them fix it? Thanks.

The CD changer says MP3 right on the front below the CD slot, the window sticker lists it as being able to play mp3 files as does the owner's manual. I tried pulling the fuse for the radio to try to reset it, but had no luck. I have also started having problems with CD-R discs with wav files on them that played perfectly for the first month that I had the truck. I haven't had a chance to take it back into the dealer, but will have to do that. It sounds like others have had similar problems.

there are different forms of mps burning, for lack of a better word. If you use Roxio EZ CD creater, you have to change the "level" for mp3 playback. I am not an expert by any meens on this and had the same problem with my Kenwood stereo. I played around with it and changed the mp3 format. I am on my laptop right now and dont have it on here, but i will look it up in the morning for you.
This unit can play MP3 and WMA files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats

I tried discs burned with a couple of different softwares, but most of them were burned with Roxio, so maybe I will play around with that today and burn another disc to see if it works. (edit) Looking at my Roxio software, it looks like it defaults to Joliet file system. Is there another settingI need to be looking for? (edit) Thanks for the help.

I saw another thread just now that mentioned that these units won't play 80 minute CD's. I am having the exact same problem you have, but it's also happening with direct copies of audio CD's (also on 80 min. discs). I'm going to go buy some 72 or 74 minute CD's and see if that does the trick. I hope it is that simple...

That's interesting. I will have to check and see if any of the discs I tried were less than 80 min, but I don't think so. If this is the case, I still think something is wrong with these CD players, because that just isn't right. Since I originally posted this, my CD player has spit out 2 CD copies as well as had issues with 2 original CDs which usually play fine. I just haven't taken the time to take it back to the dealer yet.

I played an audio CD burned to a 74 minute CD this morning and it worked perfectly! I bought some more 74 minute CD's to make MP3's with. I'll do that tonight. BTW, almost no one sells 74 anymore. I found a 25 pack at CompUSA, and it was the cheapo CompUSA brand. Even if this works, I'm going to complain about buying a 36,000 truck that has 5 year old technology for an audio system...

OK, here is what I found. No one sells 74 min. CD's anymore except CompUSA, and they are CD-RW that burn at 4x!!! I burned the MP3's to one of them and it still didn't work in the player.
The dealer said they would have to pull the unit and send it off to be analyzed. I'm shopping for aftermarket units now. Does anyone know if the steering wheel controls can still be used with an aftermarket unit?

It is strange that it requires 74 minute CDs. Are you sure that you are closing the CD file system when completing the burn process? If the CD file system is left open (so other files can be added later), many audio players won't read the track/file information correctly.
If you need 74 minute CD-R, you can get them here: http://www.americal.com/pd/608714.html
