torque converter or transmision?
Hello friends
ongoing problems still persist.
Sometimes the truck has no problems shifting then other times it has a hard time going into second, have to take foot off the gas for it to shift. and also sometimes it will not go into overdrive, just stays in next to last gear. Other days no problems at all. wondering how to tell the differance on torque converter problems compaired to transmision problems.
thanks

train460,
Boy, I got to feel'n sorry for ya. Not one post to your thread all day! Well, to the rescue I come! Not with an anwser to your problem however (sorry), just a suggestion:
Try asking this question over in the 'Clutch,Transmission, Differential, Axle and Transfer Case' forum here at FTE. Way more 'tranny heads' down there.
Good luck.

Inside the transmission, there is a solenoid pack that controls the shifts etc. It is located on the bottom of the transmission, and can be accessed by removing the pan.
Two torques head screws and a very tight connector that you can't see to the front edge of the pack towards the front of the transmission. It plugs straight up into the transmission. Like the filter does. If these solenoids get dirty; they can cause all sorts of crazy actions. Before you have it replaced though......check the wiring and connections going to the transmission on the outside first. Disconnect and reconnect them. They may have a bad connection. The stealer has a diagnostic to check the transmission. If he tells you that it is the tranny, I've seen this solenoid pack up on Ebay. Get one shipped to you.....or just buy one. Then, you can see how it is made. And see just where to gently pry to get that connector to let go for the removal of the old one. Your transmission, by the way is a 4R100 for reference.
