Removing 3rd seat

Just bought my wife a 2003 Explorer XLT with a third row seat. Can the third seat be taken out to make more room? If so how hard is it to do.

Thanks,
Kris

Why not just fold it down? Then the area is flat. Also, it you have small flexible stuff like blankets or small bags, they can store in the rear floorboard under the folded seat.

I don't know with any certainty, but I would suspect that if you go deep enough and have the parts to go back you could do it. I would think that they made all the body parts (metal, floors, etc.) the same just for the savings of uniformity (unless of course there were more savings in not doing this).

BOJOFASO -

I have an '04 XLT with the 3rd seat, and I see 2 problems with adding one:

*The shoulder harnesses are in the trim panels next to the liftgate

*The outside 2nd row seats flip forward for access to the 3rd

Based on this, I would think you're looking at mucho $$$ to add a 3rd row seat.
