Why 2 cats?

why do alot of these trucks have 2 cats on the exhuast pipe?

the reason most trucks have 2 cats is it a 2 stage exhuast system

I think ford also wants their trucks to qualify as LEV's (Low Emission Vehicles) and therefore need two cats

I can see 4 cats total on a ford true dual system, im sure thats what you meant though.

are they just 2 identical cats? or is one different than the other?

also if i redo my exhuast system would it be okay if i just got 1 high flow cat? ive heard about a problem with smell? ??? i really dont wanna have to buy 2 highflow cats

I had to start from scratch on my truck. Everyone I talked to said I should go with the two cat setup like it came with from the factory. I did so. When I got it inspected, the tech came out to me and said it was the cleanest burning '88 he had ever tested. Don't know if that means I coulda gotten away with one or not.

I live in Dallas, so I have to pass the same test you do.
