Friend of mine has a 2005 F-350 with 6.0 and auto trans. He has had overheating problems with it since new when pulling a load. Ford dealer tells him that it has a fan switch that kicks engine fan off at wide open throttle. has anyone heard of this or he he getting the run around?

To the best of my knowledge that is not true. I am routinely running full throttle as I pull my toy hauler up some of the grades around here. I figure they put the floor under the pedel for a reason
My fan will cycle on and off periodically if the need arrises. And when it kicks on you'll know it. It is a loud high pitched whine.
Believe it or not, my fan has never come on here in TX, maybe that's because the clutch was bad all last summer and I didn't even know it. I only found out b/c I complained about weak cooling and it was b/c the fan wasn't pulling air across the condensor. ANNYHOOOWwww, sorry, I know that some vehicles have a option that shuts off the fan momentarily when you initiallly punch the throttle, like military hummers I know do it for sure so that when you are approaching water you can stomp down and release and it will kick out the fan so it doesn't hit the water and break from stopping so hard. I would imagine that these trucks would have something similar, but that the fan should come back up to speed if you keep the throttle wide open for a certain period of time. Does your freinds water temp guage actually move? Does it get that hot, or does he have real guages? Just wondering, cuz even when my fan didn't work right, I was pulling about 5000 pounds in 100 plus temps for 200 miles steady and neither of my stock temp guages moved at all. Good luck finding a straight answer, try looking in the 6.0 bible too. Mat
Yes the gauge comes up and it looses coolant. He went through 6 gallons going to St Louis and back pulling 30 foot goose neck with one antique tractor on it. Ford has already replaced head gaskets and now they want to put new heads on it . He has had multiple problems with this truck and is tired of calling roadside assistance before he goes on trip to find nearest dealer to where he is going. Looks like it may be going to court as he does not want or trust this truck to get him where he is going.
