4.2 V-6 Hard cold start
I work in a municipal garage and we have two 1997 F-150s with the 4.2 V-6,
These trucks will not hardly start when left out in the cold. No DTC"s are present, They sound like they are trying to start and will run very rough and stall, Then the one truck will start up and run fine after this episode of stalling, The other one sat outside and we had to push it in to get it to start after 3 days sitting in warm garage, We unfortunately do not have much experience with the newer electronic engine controls, Working in municipal garage limits exposure to these problems, Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

How many miles on the trucks? How many miles on the spark plugs? Or maybe I should ask how many hours of idling if they are municipal trucks. Have the fuel filters been replaced?
Something that's quite common is a dirty IAC (Idle Air Control). It's a cylinder shaped piece with one electrical connector and it bolted to the top of the intake manifold. Try cleaning that with some spray type carb cleaner like Carb-Medic or some throttle body cleaner.
