Slight Pinging
I have a 2001 F250SD CC 4X4 with a V10 that I bought new and has 36000 miles on it. I use it for pulling a camper during the spring and summer and for pulling lawn equipment also at times. I don't know if its the cold air for this time of year or what but the truck pings at acceleration and feels and sounds if its bogging at 50 mph. I use 89 octane gas. When the truck had 9000 miles on it the dealer changed the coil and plugs for #6 & #9 cylinder. Is there a way for me to test/check to see if they are bad again or do I need to take it to someone with an engine diagnostic machine? or High($) test gas?????

What happens when you use 87 octane? These engines are designed for 87. Did you change to 89 because of the pinging?
And, as far as the coil packs go, if they were bad, or even failing, you would be able to hear and feel the "miss" of the engine. Usually a bad coil will begin to fail (or at least fade) under initial load.

I did use 87 octane gas once and it didn't like it especially with a 31 foot camper behind it. The reason I took it in before was because of a miss. I just try to keep up on maintenance and when I notice the slightest defference in performance I check into it before it gets out of control.
